Why I put my phone number on my blog
Robert Scoble, of Microsoft, just posted an interesting story that came about as a result of him posting his cell phone number on his blog.
Turns out that a producer of ABC’s Extreme Home Makeover (a pretty cool show I must say) was wondering if Microsoft would be interested in donating a coupl
e or two to help out a family in need. The producer did a search for Microsoft, came across Robert’s blog and decided to give him a call.
Can a company possible buy better promotion. Extreme Home Makeover is probably one of the best shows on TV for product placement and what, Microsoft has t
o donate a few laptops (or better yet Robert, some Tablet PC’s). There must be some in-house graphic designers that the three girls could come up and visi
t.
Apple could also get involved with this. They definately have designers and Cupertino is probably nice this time of year (??). Invite the trio up, give t
hem a tour and them then design their own ipod. Is that too big of a request?
A true feel good story that all came about from a simple cell phone number posted on a blog.
Give Robert a medal.

We’ve come up with the idea of having a book club at work.
We’re still a small company in start-up mode and see such an idea as a way to encourge personal growth and knowledge sharing through the organization.
The book club is going to target both developers and those on the marketing/business side. To start off we’re going to run two books, [From Good to Great][1] and [Code Complete][2].
I’ll be leading the developers through Code Complete and we’ll likely start with the section focusing on Code Improvements. I think its important for all
developers to have a solid understanding of software quality and what it means for the development process.
It’ll be interesting to see how the idea works out.

When will the music industry do it right?
Mark Cuban makes some very good points on the current state of the music industry and what he thinks could be done to increase revenues, legitimicize p2p d
ownloads and remain sustainable.
I think that many of his points are valid and we’ll see if there is any headway made in the next year or so. The music industry is in a downward spiral an
d needs to come up with something novel to pull itself out.
and now the latest news is that the movie industry feels that they are suffering at the hands of P2P users. If they concentrated on quality not quantity I
‘m sure the major production houses would make out alright….
are the gas/oil companies going to complain in 5-10 years because we’re all going to be driving electric hybrids?
